Applications
The Time-Domain ElectroMagnetic (TDEM) geophysical prospecting method has led to many major mining discoveries around the world. Crone Geophysics & Exploration has contributed to base metal, precious metal, diamond, uranium, and pure flake graphite exploration throughout Canada and internationally with our proprietary Time Domain Pulse-EM system, contract surveys with highly trained and experienced crews, and interpretation/consultation services. With over 51 years of geophysical innovation, survey safety, technological engineering, and mining exploration experience, Crone is the contractor of choice for TDEM equipment and surveys.
TDEM is ideal for the following mineral exploration applications, and can potentially map size, depth, strike and dip of conductors, and provide direction and distance to a nearby, missed conductor including distance to edges and centers of deposits around boreholes.
Base Metal Exploration – Nickel | Copper | Zinc | Lead | Iron
- Locate, define and map Volcanogenic Massive Sulphide (VMS) deposits
- Locate, define and map Sediment-hosted Massive Suphide deposits
- Locate, define and map Higher grade ore within disseminated zones
- Locate conductive marker zones related to deposits
- Sphalerite and other non-conductors, galena and other poorly connected minerals through detection of associated well-connected conductors
- Resolving Sulphide bodies from parallel graphitic horizons
Precious Metal Exploration – Gold | Silver | Platinum | Palladium
- Mapping halos of resistive mineralization and alteration associated with precious metal ore bodies
- Detect related conductors such as Pyrrhotite and Pyrite
- Detect the host such as banded iron formations
Carbon Based Mineral Exploration – High Purity Flake Graphite | Coal | Diamonds
- Mapping halos of conductive mineralization, alteration and structure
- Determine Strike and dip extent of high conductance graphitic units
- Detect and define clay layer over kimberlites
- Locate kimberlites under locally thinned conductive cover
- stratigraphic mapping of geologic contacts that define the limits of strata-bound deposits such as coal
Energy Exploration – Uranium
- Detect graphitic basement conductors
- Detect associated conductive alteration and structure zones
TDEM both surface and borehole surveys are also very useful for mine development and production applications to define the boundaries and size of conductive ore zones
Targets created or dismissed by TDEM surveys have been proven to greatly contribute to the overall success of an exploration program, and greatly reduce the time and costs associated with defining a resource. Pulse-EM is the leading geophysical method for base metal VMS, (primarily Nickel), drill target generation, and is a must have tool for any conductive mineral exploration program.
